A waterjet utilizes a high pressure stream of water to erode a narrow line in the stock material. Because the abrasive is added at the nozzle, it is simple to switch between water only and abrasive waterjet cutting. This flexibility greatly enhances the versatility of a waterjet machine, as it can easily switch from cutting ½” (1.27cm) foam gaskets to 4″ (10.16cm) titanium brackets.

The Water Jet at OSAAP Technologies is used for quick, clean, and strong shadow board creation. Our custom CAD software pairs perfectly with the water jet as we are able to develop designs and then machine them efficiently. Our current methodology involves foam on the water jet being cut through and then adhered to a plastic or foam thin bottom layer.

CHOOSING YOUR DESIGN

We offer water jetted foam in two different depths currently (15mm and 25mm) both sizes are available in 3 different colors: Blue, Red and Gray.

The base of the water jetted foam is adhered to the bottom of the designs. We offer 3 different types of base materials: foam, PVC and acrylic. Each base is available in 4 different colors: Blue, Red, Gray and Yellow.

Option 1. Foam Base

Using our standard high density foam this base offers superior performance in a light weight material. Our foam is Zote Foams LD45 variation, a closed cell/cross linked polyethylene foam. Note that this base is available with laser engraved text.

Option 2. PVC Base

The PVC base adds a high level of rigidity and stability to your shadow board. PVC itself is a wonderful material as it is easily cleaned and not effected by weathering, moisture, electricity, or chemicals.

Option 3. Acrylic Base

The acrylic base offers rigidity and stability similar to the PVC base, however, it is a more light weight variation. Acrylic is highly resistant to variations in temperature as it will not bow or stretch. It is currently offered with high contrast laser text.

We employ acrylic in three distinct ways for manufacturing our shadow boards. Firstly, acrylic serves as labels where we intricately cut out small pieces and laser text onto them, occasionally incorporating a slot for chits or employee IDs. Secondly, acrylic functions as a backerboard, enhancing the stability of the foam cutout while providing the flexibility of including text at the insert’s base. Thirdly, acrylic acts as a top piece, enhancing the design’s durability and offering higher-contrast laser text.
